Roderick's father was an RAF pilot stationed in Malta (1946 to 1948) when his job was to patrol the Mediterranean Sea looking for Jews to send to the camps on Cyprus.

Roderick only learned this while studying to be a rabbi in Jerusalem in 1995.  And it was in Jerusalem that he met Ada, a survivor of his father’s patrols.  This is his father and Ada’s story.

Roderick Young studied English at Oxford and Jewish Studies at the Jewish Theological Seminary. He was ordained by Hebrew Union College. He has been rabbi to Beit Simchat Torah in New York, Leicester Progressive, West London and Finchley Reform synagogues. He is now a freelance rabbi and an educator, living and writing in the UK and Italy.
