In this course, Clive explores the nine 'protected characteristics' which the 2010 Equality Act made it illegal to discriminate against.
They include fields such as sex, race and religion. Those perhaps are obvious to all (now!). But what are the others and what are the implications of requiring by law that people do not discriminate concerning them in employment and the provision of goods and services? How does this, or might this, affect not only our rights but also our attitudes? Do we all find each of the nine characteristics equally deserving of such protection? Are there circumstances in which these concerns should reasonably be set aside?
Clive examines each characteristic in turn and explores the implications for us and for society of it being protected in law.
