Join us for a film screening of L’Chaim, Elkan Spiller’s debut feature about his eccentric and charismatic cousin, Chaim Lubelski.

Having had a wild past in Germany, London and Paris, he eventually became a millionaire in New York and a professional chess player in St. Tropez. At age 63, Chaim moved to Antwerp to live with his mother – a Holocaust Survivor – taking care of her round the clock, with true love, joy singing and lots of laughter.

This film is an intimate story about altruistic love and deep humanity, demonstrating how the trauma of war still affects the everyday life of the next generation. Despite everything, Chaim rejects the role of victim, choosing instead to accept his legacy with deep faith, love and humour.

Followed by a Q&A with director Elkan Spiller discussing the themes outlined in the film. In partnership with Second Generation Network.
