Refugee, firebrand, adulterer and now a student at the age of seventy, Karl Langeman returns to England where he first fled from Nazi Germany in 1938 — determined to make the last chapter of his life a blaze of glory.

Now, forty years on, during Britain’s “Winter Of Discontent”,  he moves in with his estranged middle-aged son and family. The effect of his return is the catalyst to a familial apocalypse, as identities are unmasked and family secrets are uncovered.

The action of the play takes place in London, in late 1978 and the early weeks of 1979, in the run-up to Margaret Thatcher's electoral victory.

Throughout the play the house is in the grip of an icy winter.

Written by Paul Herzberg; directed by Joe Harmston; featuring Sir David Suchet.
