Scene Unseen is a captivating new staged song cycle.

Part cabaret, part art song, it explores identity, sexuality, and ancestry, through the lens of Jessica’s fractured relationship with her birth father, lyricist Pete Brown, who came to fame writing for the supergroup Cream.

As the narrative unfolds, Jessica goes on a journey of discovery about her identity, including the extraordinary secret at the heart of her Jewish heritage and the family she never knew.

Scene Unseen was originally conceived as a film, released in September 2022, produced by Royal and Derngate theatre and ETO at Home. This is the stage premiere.

These performances are dedicated to Pete Brown, who died on the 19th May 2023.

Original, thought-provoking, and funny with a refreshing new slant on gender identity…genuinely moving…Atkins’ music enhances her words with sensitivity, moving seamlessly between prose and rhyme, occasionally soaring with a burst of emotion.
