Operation Grandma (Mivtza Savta) is a beloved 1999 Israeli satirical comedy directed by Dror Shaul that has achieved cult status for its quirky humour and unforgettable lines.

The story follows three very different brothers — Alon, a no-nonsense Israeli Army officer; Benni, an inventive electrician; and Idan, a gentle tour guide — as they race against time to bury their adored grandmother in her kibbutz cemetery. When Alon must also launch a secret operation the same day, he treats the funeral like a military mission, leading to a cascade of bureaucratic obstacles, mishaps, and absurd situations.

This tribute is especially poignant in honour of the late Rami Heuberger (1963–2025), whose charismatic performance as Lt. Col. Alon “Krembo” Sagiv helped cement the film in Israeli pop culture. Heuberger, a prolific actor and comedian with an extensive career on stage, screen and television, passed away after a battle with cancer this year, and his role in Operation Grandma remains one of his most memorable contributions to cinema.
