Accompanied by the hugely dynamic Jamie Safir on piano, Emma will reflect on her own Jewishness and pay tribute to the legendary American Jewish composers who wrote the Great American Songbook. With songs by George Gershwin, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Irving Berlin, Bob Dylan and Kurt Weil amongst others.

About the Meshuga Baby album

June 2022 will mark the release of ‘Meshuga Baby’, which will be launched live at JW3, is the brand new album from the charismatic and mesmerizing jazz vocalist Emma Smith.

Now with her first new solo album in 10 years, Emma is set to make an indelible mark on the
European and international musical landscape, by showcasing a body of work that perfectly demonstrates her prowess as a rising star with one of the very best voices in the business.

In a nod to Emma’s proud Jewish heritage, ‘Meshuga Baby’ is a play on words based on ‘Meshuge’, the Yiddish word for ‘crazy’ - a judgment that Smith describes as “so often passed on brave ambitious women that are not afraid express their opinions and showcase their talent.” The album is a carefully curated selection of much loved classics interpreted in Emma's unique way, combined with some delightfully quirky originals that showcase Emma’s flair for songwriting.

The concepts and messages throughout Meshuga Baby paint a picture of a compelling and radiant female protagonist navigating the trials and tribulations of modern life. The uniquely arranged versions of songs such as ‘I Don’t Care’ combined with bold and witty originals such as ‘Sit On My Knee And Tell Me That You Love Me’ take the listener on an emotional rollercoaster and personal journey, eventually resulting in total emancipation and liberation from life’s many challenges. The combination of this and the absolute quality of the music and performance itself makes the album stand out as a poignant experience.
