Out at Six is an intimate, introspective documentary in which director Livi Kessel revisits a formative adolescent relationship that slowly shrank her world to just two people and a few large dogs at the door.
Though her partner never physically hurt her, Livi lived with the persistent fear that leaving him would bring something terrible. Interwoven with her personal narrative is a timeline built from research into hundreds of cases where women were murdered by their partners, structured into eight stages that chart a chilling progression from romance to danger.
Through candid interviews with those who witnessed her transformation, the film explores the subtle, psychological dynamics of abusive relationships and how communities perceive and respond to them, illuminating the often unseen path from affection to confinement.
