Join us for this enlightening event as we delve into the Qur'an's teachings about Jews, Judaism and the Bible, presented by Rick Sopher with Dr Abdulla Galadari (online). There will be an opportunity to ask questions.

Rick Sopher is emerging as a key figure in interfaith scriptural dialogue. With his background as a Jew whose family lived in Babylon (Iraq) from ancient times, Rick has forged new ways of understanding the links between the Bible and the Qur'an.

Beginning in November 2020 he convened a reading group comprising the world's leading authorities on religious texts to discuss the themes contained in the book. He has engaged in discussions with Muslim Imams in the UK comparing Jewish and Muslim texts, which have appeared online in podcasts.

He graduated from Christ's College, Cambridge in 1981 and had a career on finance, rising to CEO of Edmond de Rothschild Capital Holdings. In 2007, for his work in religious education, he was awarded the Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur by French President Jacques Chirac.

Abdulla Galadari is an Associate Professor of Islamic Studies at Khalifa University and holds a PhD in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the University of Aberdeen. His field is in Qur'anic hermeneutics and the Qur'an's possible engagement with Near Eastern traditions in Late Antiquity including biblical and rabbinic literature. He uses a multidisciplinary approach to the Qur'an that includes historical and philological methods to understand the Qur'an's milieu and its conversation with different audiences and traditions. He is the author of Qur'anic Hermeneutics: Between Science, History, and the Bible (2018), Metaphors of Death and Resurrection in the Qur'an: An Intertextual Approach with Biblical and Rabbinic Literature (2021).
