Join us for the UK Public Premiere of this extraordinary new documentary, followed by a panel discussion with the producers.

Despite being one of the key protagonists in Israel’s story, Theodor Herzl is far from being a household name, and yet it is his vision of a Jewish State that has come to define one of the key areas in modern international relations. Follow presenter David Baddiel through Herzl’s journey, with Stephen Fry voicing the words of Herzl.

Theodor Herzl – The Man Behind Israel is a bold and timely new documentary that traces the visionary, conflicted, and ultimately tragic life of the man who imagined a Jewish homeland long before it became a reality. Alongside archival materials and expert commentary, the documentary includes powerful testimonies from both Palestinians and those who witnessed and survived the Holocaust, offering viewers a broad, human lens on a history that continues to shape lives today.

The film brings together a diverse range of voices: historians, writers, diplomats, survivors, and everyday citizens who help trace the echo of Herzl’s vision into the present. The team travelled across continents to build a documentary that is as visually compelling as it is emotionally resonant. Following a preview at BAFTA in July, this is the first public opportunity to see the landmark documentary.

Produced by Sir Bernard Zissman and Geoff Morrow.
Filmed and directed by Window Zebra Media, New Take Films and distributed globally by TVF International.
