To celebrate Refugee Week 2026, we're delighted to partner with HIAS+JCORE to launch ‘Not Only for Ourselves’, the history of JCORE. This fascinating book documents the evolution of the organisation and explores its role leading Jewish anti-racism across many decades.
Now run as HIAS+JCORE – a partnership with the international refugee protection agency HIAS – the charity’s work challenging hate and welcoming refugees in the UK is more important than ever.
We are excited to be joined by an esteemed panel of guests for this event. You will hear from JCORE’s founder, Dr Edie Friedman, who ran the organisation for 46 years; Rabbi David Mason, who became HIAS+JCORE’s first Executive Director in 2023; the book’s author, Joseph Finlay; Lord Simon Woolley; and Dawn Butler MP. Together they will discuss the organisation’s proud 50-year history, and the future of its work amidst the global context of a rising far-right and hostility to refugees.
‘Not Only for Ourselves’ is published in conjunction with the Parkes Institute at the University of Southampton which houses the JCORE archive.
