Join Naomi as she explores the richness of modern Jewish culture through reading Israeli, European and American literature.
To celebrate JW3’s Bar Mitzvah year, this course will explore the coming-of-age novels of Howard Jacobson, the short stories of Melissa Bank, and the autobiographical essays of Adrienne Rich and Muriel Spark. We will also mark Holocaust Remembrance Week by considering the poetry of Geoffrey Hill and Sylvia Plath.
The second half of the term will be devoted to scenes from the tragedies of Arthur Miller, culminating in our final session led by Aviva Dautch who will teach on the poetry of Adrienne Rich.
