Interested in Life Writing but don’t know how or where to start? This six-week course will help you memorialise your memories by gathering photos, videos, newspaper clippings, letters and journals and weaving them into a narrative.

Experienced print and TV journalist Pam Cohen will explore issues of why we write, what is memoir and how we can broaden out to open different doorways into the self.

Week One: Why, when and how we write. What is memoir/biography/autobiography?
Week Two: Exploring different techniques of creative non fiction
Week Three: The role of truth and memory in life writing
Week Four: The role of research and multimedia in life writing
Week Five: The “eye” and the “I” in life writing
Week Six: The art of editing and redrafting. A chance to share our work

Pam Cohen has completed an MA in Creative Writing at The Open University where she specialized in creative non-fiction. She was a print and television journalist in South Africa for some years, working for a women’s magazine, a national Sunday newspaper and British television, before coming to London. She has also worked as a teacher. She has a passion for both teaching and writing.
