This six-week course will consider theatre and drama from its earliest beginnings with the Greeks to the modern-day stage.

How did it start and who still doesn’t do much of it around the world? Most of us now take it for granted that it’s bound to be there, not least hanging on our bedroom walls or taking up living room space!

Clive will draw on his extensive experience as Drama teacher, scholar and producer/performer to explore this surprising history.

  • Week 1: The Greeks and the Romans
  • Week 2: Medieval theatre
  • Week 3: Elizabethans, Jacobeans and the Restoration
  • Week 4: From 1800 – 1955
  • Week 5: Around the ‘non-Christian’ world
  • Week 6: 1956 to now – including Cinema and TV

Awarded an OBE for his contribution to the community Clive Lawton is a superb presenter, knowledgeable and charismatic. He is an Educational consultant, a magistrate and a regular presenter around the world and at JW3 where his course subjects move between diverse subjects exploring literary, philosophical, historical and religious themes.
