Some - especially those who wish to deny or diminish the Jewish relationship with the Land - try to argue that Jewish interest in the Land of Israel is a recent thing, mostly a product of 19th century European nationalism.

In this course, Clive will trace the unfolding story of the Jewish relationship with Israel, paying particular attention to the development of aspirations of Jews leading up to the creation of contemporary political Zionism at the first Zionist Congress in Basle in 1897.
