Join Patrick Bade as he celebrates the life and career of the famous French art dealer, Berthe Weill.
Born into a poor Jewish family and without social connections or physical allure, Berthe Weill had few advantages in life other than courage and a brilliant eye for artistic talent. She was the first Paris dealer to show the work of both Picasso and Matisse and the only dealer to offer a one man show to Modigliani in his life time.
With her motto of "Make way for the young" she offered support for many of the best artists active in Paris between 1900 and the forced closure of her gallery in 1940.
Weill is the subject of an exhibition which has travelled from New York to Montreal and will be at the Musee de l'Orangerie in Paris over the winter months.
