Josh Middleton

Musical Director and Lyricist

Josh Middleton is a musical director, accordionist, composer and multi-instrumentalist based in London. As a professional accordionist Josh specialises in Klezmer and East European Folk styles. Josh has worked with many Klezmer and Balkan music figures/ensembles such as Frank London (The Klezmatics), Merlin Shepherd, She’koyokh and The London Klezmer Quartet.

He has toured extensively as Musical Director and accordionist with String Theatre (Tunisia, Turkey, Russia, Hungary, Serbia), Nick Cassenbaum’s Bubble Shmeisis (UK, USA, Malta) and his ensemble Don Kipper( to much critical acclaim: **** The Guardian, **** The Evening Standard).

In 2026 Josh played accordion and Irish whistle for Paul Simon’s Graceland at the Royal Albert Hall for the BBC Proms with Ladysmith Black Mambazo, working with the Nu Civilisation Orchestra, and guest singers such as Laura Mvula, James Bay and Flyte.

Theatre Credits include Indecent (The Menier Chocolate Factory 2020, 2021)

Musical Director Credits include Watch on the Rhine (The Donmar Warehouse 2022)
