Academy Award Nominee Benedict Cumberbatch is best known for playing the title roles of 'Sherlock Holmes' and ‘Doctor Strange’ which have earned him international acclaim and several awards including a Primetime Emmy.

Benedict portrayed Alan Turing in 'The Imitation Game', a multi award-winning film that earned him a BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. Other big screen performances include the role of the dragon Smaug and the Necromancer in Peter Jackson’s 'The Hobbit', Khan in JJ Abrams’ blockbuster 'Star Trek: Into Darkness', Julian Assange in 'The Fifth Estate', Little’ Charles Aiken in 'August: Osage County', Ford in Steve McQueen’s Oscar winning '12 Years A Slave' and Billy Bulger in 'Black Mass'.

Benedict is set to headline Netflix’s upcoming thriller series, ‘Eric’ in which he will play Vincent Anderson, a grief-stricken TV star and puppeteer who finds comfort in an unlikely friendship after his son goes missing.

He will be in conversation with Nick Hackworth, the prominent art writer, curator and advisor. Formerly the Contemporary Art Critic at the Evening Standard and Art Editor at Dazed & Confused, Nick is currently Director of Modern Forms, a private collection and curatorial platform.

On June 27, Benedict and Nick will be discussing art, acting, and how the two interlink, while sharing stories from their remarkable lives at JW3.

Early TV roles included his incredibly powerful performance as Stephen Hawking, in the BBC’s highly acclaimed drama ‘Hawking’ which earned him his first BAFTA nomination. A second BAFTA nomination came in 2010 for his portrayal of Bernard in the BBC adaptation of ‘Small Island’. Benedict also starred as Christopher Stejens in the Tom Stoppard’s BBC/HBO drama ’Parades End' based on the acclaimed novels, also earning him an Emmy nomination.

In 2016 his depiction of Richard III in the BBC’s ‘Hollow Crown’ series cemented his place as one of the finest actors of his generation earning him another BAFTA nomination. Benedict joined the Marvel Universe as the titular character in 2016’s Doctor Strange, reprising his role as Dr. Strange in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. More recently, Benedict’s performance in David Nicholls’ adaptation of Edward St. Aubyn’s beloved ‘Patrick Melrose’ has earned him a BAFTA for Best Actor and Emmy and Golden Globe Best Actor nominations. In 2019, he appeared in the HBO/Channel 4 political drama ‘Brexit: The Uncivil War’ and the Cold War spy-drama 'The Courier' . Last year Benedict was seen back in the Marvel Universe in theatres as Dr Strange in 'SpiderMan: No Way Home', 'The Electrical Life Of Louis Wain' a film about the English artist Louis Wain and "Dr Strange: In The Multiverse Of Madness'. He also completed filming director Wes Anderson's Henry Sugar due for release later this year. Benedict is currently filming the Netflix drama 'Eric'.

Nick Hackworth 

Nick Hackworth is an art writer and curator.  

He is Director of Modern Forms, a private collection and curatorial platform founded by collector Hussam Otaibi and co-founder of Paradise Row Projects a non-profit arts organisation. In collaboration with staff and students at Central Saint Martins he co-founded Credit, a new initiative supporting UK’s emerging art scene. Previously he was Contemporary Art Critic at the Evening Standard and Art Editor at Dazed & Confused.

Outside of the art world Nick is a Director of AmazoniAlerta, a non-governmental organisation that works with traditional peoples and communities in the Brazil to advance the legal defence of their lands and rights and to protect the Amazon rainforest.
