The differences centred on the rights of States versus the rights of the Federal Government. The key issue was one of slavery. It is a rich tapestry of both events and people, of kings and politicians, of immigrants and traders, of absolutism and democracy. We shall explore much of the fascinating story of this city and its citizens over the length of our course
