American Civil War and Aftermath

Less than a century after American independence the young country went to war with itself. The North versus The South. The differences centred on the rights of States versus the rights of the Federal Government. The key issue was one of slavery. The war was bitterly fought and has some claim to be the first modern war. The immediate aftermath was one of continuing division – a division which still breaks the surface of American life and politics today

Less than a century after American independence the young country went to war with itself. The North versus The South. The differences centred on the rights of States versus the rights of the Federal Government. The key issue was one of slavery. The immediate aftermath was one of continuing division – a division which still breaks the surface of American life and politics today

This guided walk tells the story of the pioneering Jewish Architect Emigres who fled persecution in Europe and made pre-war Britain their new home. Greatest Catastrophe Ever

The fact of the revolt is little known, the details even less so. As we emerge from the immense shadow of the Holocaust, it is worth considering how the Jews coped with the stunning, numbing catastrophe of the aftermath of the Bar Kokhba revolt more than 18 centuries ago. Are there parallels from which we can learn or is the past - and the Land of Israel - too much 'another country'?

JW3 Salon: The Conversation

The Conversation. The Talmud teaches us: ‘friendship or death,’ something is lost when one is not connected. From Mike Leigh's film making process, to Tino Seghal's performative works at the Tate, conversation has always been part of artistic practice. But what happens when it is lost? JW3 invites artists to this Salon to discuss the idea of conversation. How can discourse and argument be part of an artistic practice, and what is involved when art is produced as a collaborative act. We will explore what role The Salon plays in building a creative thinking space, and how can artists from radically different disciplines come together. For all practicing artists from visual arts, dance, theatre, music, live art, and film.

London: History of a World City

Archaeology reveals the earliest story of London, but it is during The Roman Occupation that London established itself as the most important city in the land. A position it has held ever since. London has been the seat of political power, of the Law, and, of course, of trade and business. It is a rich tapestry of both events and people, of kings and politicians, of immigrants and traders, of absolutism and democracy. Ehud Banai & Michael Chapman

The musical collaboration of English folk artist Michael Chapman and Israeli musician Ehud Banai may not seem like an obvious coupling, except for the fact that Michael Chapman has for some years now been pushing his musical envelope in all directions, embracing many genres of music, and Ehud Banai cut his musical teeth back in the 70’s listening to Michael Chapman, in the valley of Rosh Pina in Upper Galilee. In 2017 they recorded EB=MC2, a unique musical conversation.
