Amsterdam: City of Water and Commerce

Amsterdam is a lot more than canals and bicycles. Its history stretches back to a 12th century fishing village, before turning itself into a great European commercial centre in the late 16th century. Alongside this commercial city arose a wonderful city of culture in the Dutch Golden Age. Yet Amsterdam also witnessed many devastating wars, right up to The Second World War. A city with many ups and downs but today it remains one of the continent’s most vibrant and tolerant of cities.

Vivian’s Garden + Part One & Two

Vivian’s Garden is a sensitive portrait of the relationship between artists Vivian and Elizabeth Suter in Panajachel, Guatemala; the film intimately captures their artistic, emotional and economic lives alongside their extended community. It will be followed by Part One: Where there is a joyous mood, there a comrade will appear to share a glass of wine, and Part Two: The moon nearly at the full. The team horse goes astray – a new two-part film that combines narrative techniques with observational footage to create a procession of images in which staged scenes flow seamlessly into real life. The starting point for the film is The Shobies’ Story, a short story written by the science fiction writer Ursula K. Le Guin; it follows a group of individuals who come together in preparation for an experiment in space travel using non-linear time.
