Telling Refugee Love Stories

Arts & Culture

What role do the arts play in building bridges and creating understanding around issues of migration? Old Stock: A Refugee Love Story is an international hit musical inspired by the true stories of two Jewish Romanian refugees coming to Canada in 1908, exploring the refugee crisis through a story from the Jewish Diaspora.

Come hear a panel of experts including acclaimed playwright Diane Samuels (Kindertransport) and the show’s creators discuss the personal and political complexities of migration and the opportunities theatre creates to tackle difficult questions. Old Stock: A Refugee Love Story runs from 18-28 September at the historic Wilton’s Music Hall. The New Yorker said of Old Stock: “Darkly funny and moving...it is hard to imagine a more apt time for a production with so clear a moral centre.” The show won a Herald Angel Award, and a Scotsman Fringe First at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe. Panel audiences will have a chance to access discounted tickets to the show.
