The Startup Nation Examined: The (Mostly) Good, The Bad and The Ugly

With Professor Avi Weiss

Classes & Courses

Israel has become synonymous with the term “Start-Up Nation.” Accounting for only about 8% of total employment (more than any other country), the high tech industry is the source of one-quarter of Israel’s income tax revenues and a major portion of the added value of Israeli exports. The sector has received support and incentives from Israeli policy makers since its inception, including a recently approved comprehensive government reform to encourage further employment in the sector.

The question is: to what extent can we expect employment in Israel’s high tech industry to grow? Professor Weiss of the Taub Center for Social Policy Studies in Israel will discuss efforts to expand high tech employment, and will analyze the degree to which these efforts are likely to bear fruit in the short run and in the long run.

In December 2019, The Marker, one of Israel’s leading business papers, included Professor Avi Weiss, in his role as President of the Taub Center, in their list of the top 100 people most likely to influence Israelis in 2020.
