SERET: Cellfish + Q&A

Cinema

Directed by Tami Federman | 2019 | Documentary | Israel | Hebrew with English subtitles | 1hr 12m |

“Cellfish” explores the life and work of internationally recognised, multi-disciplinary Israeli Artist Shelly Federman, through the eyes of her younger sister Tammy, an actress, singer and film maker.

Shelley is best known for “The Floating wall”, a political art Installation focusing on the Israeli-Palestinian wall that was shown at the Lincoln Center in New York, and “Sea & Sun” which was presented at the Venice Biennale.
The film includes over thirty years of footage, embracing Shelly’s childhood and upbringing as well as her creative process and her art works. Shelly chose to escape the comfort of her father’s fortress, in search of true meaning and creative expression. In her path, she is confronted with longing, suffering and the fleeting essence of life.

Poignant and lyrical, Shelly documents herself in Cellfish coping with cancer until the day of her death, showing intimate moments of her relationship with her daughter. It captures the radiance and light of this enigmatic and colourful artist.
