LONDON’S JEWISH JAZZ HISTORY REMEMBERED! Alan Dein, curator of Music Is The Most Beautiful Language In The World – Yiddisher Jazz In London’s East End 1920s To 1950s, presents the remarkable story of long-forgotten Jewish-themed jazz 78rpm discs when swinging hot dance bands were still all the rage on the streets of Whitechapel. In this unique audio and visual performance, Alan will be playing original records, and screening rare images from the era. He will also be joined onstage by special guests including musician Ruth Franks, whose father Johnny Franks recorded such Yiddisher classics as ‘Mahzel’ and ‘Whitechapel’ with his band ‘the Kosher Ragtimers’ and Eddie Levy, grandson of the founder of Levy's of Whitechapel, the gramophone shop once known as 'the Home of Music'. Howard Williams, DJ, will be playing Yiddish tracks before the performance, and during the event.
