Never Again: Genocides of the 20th Century

Clive Lawton OBE

Classes & Courses

Genocide is a term coined in the 1940s specifically to describe the Holocaust, and soon after the slogan 'Never Again' was born. But we now know that we've missed that boat and genocides have happened both before and since. This short course will examine a few, both incontrovertible genocides like that in Rwanda and, of course the Holocaust itself, and more disputable ones in a variety of places over the centuries.

By the end of the programme, we'll have learnt to use the term more selectively but also have considered whether genocide is a remarkable and rare event or a commonplace of human behaviour.
