JW3 are delighted to host the second event in our series of Global Jewish Conversations, in partnership with Genesis Philanthropy Group.

André Aciman, critically acclaimed and award winning author of the novel Call Me by Your Name will take to the stage and delve into conversation with Howard Rosenman, Producer of Academy Award winning Call me by Your Name and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Andre's new novel ‘find me’ a follow up to Call Me By Your Name will be available at a special rate of £10.

From André’s childhood spent in Egypt to Howard’s work with Gay Rights and his time spent in the Israeli Defence Force, the evening will discuss and deliberate how these experiences shaped both their identity and their approach to Judaism, and how they have seen the wider Jewish experience change around them.

André Aciman is an American writer. Born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt, he is currently distinguished professor at the Graduate Center of City University of New York, where he teaches the history of literary theory and the works of Marcel Proust. Aciman previously taught creative writing at New York University and French literature at Princeton and Bard College.

He is the author of several novels, including Call Me by Your Name (winner, in the Gay Fiction category, of the 2007 Lambda Literary Award and made into a film) and a 1995 memoir, Out of Egypt, which won a Whiting Award. 

Brooklyn native Howard Rosenman, the eldest son of parents who were both Seven generations born in Jerusalem, Israel, began his producing career working on such television films as Isn’t It Shocking (1973) before transitioning to feature films as the producer of Sparkle (1976). He then produced The Main Event with Barbra Streisand and Ryan O’Neil and Resurrection starring Ellen Burstyn, Sam Shepard and Eva LeGallienne. As the co-president of Sandollar Productions, he produced or executive-produced a wide range of material, including Call Me by Your Name (2017) which won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay last year. Upcoming is Anita, about Anita Bryant, starring Ashley Judd, Neil Patrick Harris and Mayim Bialik, to be released in 2020.

The principal aims of the series are to deliver a rich, diverse and inspiring range of speaker events on Jewish themes, that will educate and entertain through high level conversation and debate. The Global Jewish Conversations series will spark discussion around contemporary issues of relevance to the Jewish People, by hearing from inspiring Jewish speakers of the highest calibre: Jewish leaders, philanthropists, politicians, journalists, business people, artists, writers, and thinkers from across the Jewish world – with a particular focus on bringing the very best of the Jewish Diaspora to the British-Jewish community.
