Fiction Workshop: Editing Your Novel

Part of the Hampstead & Highgate Literary Festival

Arts & Culture

‘I would write a book, or a short story, at least three times — once to understand it, the second time to improve the prose, and a third to compel it to say what it still must say.’ Bernard Malamud.

Join Virago Publisher Sarah Savitt to explore common editorial problems in first novels and how you might solve them. From the importance of the first line to knowing when you’re finished, Sarah will take you through the editing fundamentals and empower you to make your book the best it can be.

Sarah Savitt is the Publisher at Virago and previously worked at Headline, Faber and David Godwin Associates. She has published authors include Louise Doughty, Kate Hamer, Sara Pascoe, Karen Rose, Sarah Schmidt, Lauren Graham and Hanif Kureishi. She has taught for Arvon, Faber Academy and Guardian Masterclasses.
