Body & Soul

With Angela Gluck

Classes & Courses

Being Jewish is a physical experience that’s often intensive and all-consuming. We know we have a body but do we have a soul? If so, where and what is it, and how did we get it? Is it the same as ‘mind’ or even ‘brain’? Is it unique to humans or shared by other forms of life? Perhaps it isn’t something we have but rather something that we are. We’ll explore changing approaches to the soul from ancient to modern times, examining the characteristic rabbinic focus on the minutiae of our physical lives and distinctive Jewish understandings of holiness, as an en-souled body and an embodied spirit.
