Blinded by the Light

UK Jewish Film

Cinema

Luton, 1987. Javed, a British teenager of Pakistani descent, writes poetry as a means to escape the intolerance of his hometown and the rigidity of his traditional father. When a classmate introduces him to the music of Bruce Springsteen, Javed sees his life reflected in the Boss’s art. Blinded by the Light is a delightful new British coming-of-age (musical) drama with, surprisingly, a couple of really good Jewish jokes and a story that although is not exactly Jewish could have very easily been relocated to Golders Green.
