Art Uncovered: Revealing the Masters and Moderns

With Alice White

Classes & Courses

This incisive, colourful lecture provides an in-depth exploration of famous artworks from a contemporary painter’s perspective, revealing how Turner and Rembrandt were true innovators of their time, developing a new language of creative processes for modern painters such as Pollock and Fontana to follow. Join artist and Central St. Martins lecturer Alice White as she goes under the varnish of paintings ranging from the 16th to the 21st Centuries, exploring everything from dripping pigment to secret sketchbooks, broken brushes to smudged thumbmarks, torn canvases to experimental light installations. Whatever era of art you prefer, this talk will provide you with a new way of seeing painting.

Alice White is a professional Oil Painter, and an Associate Lecturer at Central St Martins College of Art and Design. She is regularly invited to speak on art theory and practice at institutes including Kings College London, Brunel University, Canterbury Christ Church University, The Art Worker’s Guild and The Courtauld Institute of Art. Her exhibitions this year include The Royal Society of Artists in Birmingham and the Bankside Gallery in London.
