The short form has always fascinated A.M. Homes, who, in the nearly three decades since her seminal debut collection The Safety of Objects, has been celebrated by readers and critics alike as one of our boldest and most original writers, acclaimed for her psychological accuracy and "satire so close to the truth it's terrifying" (Ali Smith). Last year we were given "Days of Awe"- her first book since the Women's Prize-winning May We Be Forgiven, and is a major new addition to her body of visionary, fearless, outrageously funny work. (Viking). We are delighted to welcome chair Sandi Toksvig for the discussion.

With her signature humor and compassion, A.M. Homes exposes the heart of an uneasy America in her new collection - exploring our attachments to each other through characters who aren't quite who they hoped to become, though there is no one else they can be.

Pocket-Sized is a day-long festival celebrating the short form in print, digital and audio formats with some of the most influential thinkers, writers and poets around. The building will be buzzing with talks, discussions, panels, film, a roaming audio lounge and a pop-up bookstore. Buy your ticket for an individual event or a day pass for entry to the whole festival.

Writer, comedian, broadcaster and activist, Sandi Toksvig has presented Radio 4’s, The News Quiz, BBC2’s QI and Channel4’s Great British Bake Off. She co-founded the Women’s Equality Party, has written many over 25 books and multiple plays. She was made OBE for her services to broadcasting in 2014.
