About the Speakers

Louis de Bernières is the bestselling author of the award-winning Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. In addition to novels, he has also written several collections of poetry and short fiction.

Lara Maiklem is a British editor who's been mudlarking for more than a decade. Featured in the Guardian and by the BBC for her work asthe "London Mudlark," she lives on the Kent coast,close to the Thames Estuary, and visits the river asregularly as the tides permit. 

James Meek is a journalist and the author of novels including The People’s Act of Love, which was longlisted for the Booker Prize, and The Heart Broke In, which was shortlisted for the Costa Prize.

David Hepworth is a broadcaster and music journalist. He was involved in the launch and editing of magazines such as Smash Hits, Q, Mojo and The Word, and was one of the presenters of The Old Grey Whistle Test.

Keggie Carew won the 2016 Costa Biography Award for her unconventional and acclaimed memoir of her father, Dadland, which was a Sunday Times top ten bestseller.
