10 Moments That Changed Comedy

A special evening with Dan Patterson and Howard Jacobson

Arts & Culture

Dan Patterson - best known for creating and producing hit TV series like ‘Mock of The Week’ and ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’, and Howard Jacobson - legendary comic novelist who won the Man Booker Prize for ‘The Finkler Question’, take us through comedy clips to the greatest moments in comedy. From stand-up to sitcoms, films to improvisation troupes and comedy sketch shows - which are the key moments in the history of comedy and how have they shaped the genre in the modern age?

Dan Patterson is a highly successful, award-winning writer and producer of cutting edge comedy, who has worked on radio, television and the stage. He is the creator of the comedy shows Saturday Night Fry with Stephen Fry and Whose Line Is It Anyway?, which became an instant success, winning multi-awards both in the UK (including both BAFTA and the Royal Television Society awards) and in the US, where it was hosted by Drew Carry. After returning to the UK in 2004, Patterson created with Mark Leveson the hit satirical panel show Mock The Week, which soon established itself as a key BBC Two show and was instrumental in reviving stand-up comedy on television.

Howard Jacobson is a British novelist and journalist, best known for writing comic novels that often revolve around the dilemmas of British Jewish characters. His novels - The Mighty Walzer, Who's Sorry Now?, Kalooki Nights and J, to name just a few  - won multiple awards and turned him into a household name, and his 2010 novel ‘The Finkler Question’ won the Man Booker Prize (2010). He also contributes a weekly column for The Independent.
